Pricing

How much should you pay for a DJ? Interesting question. There are several ways to approch this question.

1. Get The Cheapest DJ You Can Find
This is the easiest approach. Just call around and find the cheapest price and go with that guy. We often find students at schools (kids unfamiliar with life's tradeoffs) making this mistake. The problem with this approach is the error in assumptions. It assumes that all DJ's are the same and that any music at all is the right music for your party. If you take this method, then save yourself even more money and just buy a boom-box and throw in a few CD's. How can it hurt? Think about the parties you've been to in your life. You remember the one's that were excellent fun and had a great DJ. You also remember, in a different way, the parties where the DJ stunk. There is a difference.

2. Call Around And Ask Questions
This is really a pretty good method. You can tell whether someone fits with your personality and will give you the type of celebration you're looking for. Feel free to talk to references, as well. They can give you a good idea of the type of personalities you are dealing with. Most of the DJ's we've seen are all pretty much in the same price range, when you take into account the hours they play and the equipment they will bring. Don't let a $50 or $100 difference have you make a decision that will change the outcome of your party. Get the DJ that fits for you.

3. Look At The Big Picture
Think about your overall budget and the total cost of your party. Let's use Wedding Receptions as an example. Think about any Reception you attended in the last few years. Can you remember what you ate? Probably not. Yet, food was the most costly thing for the whole party. Can you remember if you had a good time? You bet! The DJ is usually one of the lower cost items at your reception, considerably less than food and often even less than the cake or flowers. But it is almost always the DJ, the music, fun and dancing that is remembered over the years.

Put things in perspective. Put your money where the memories are made. Get a good DJ!
